People who say Buhari's administration has impoverished them are being uncharitable - Gov. El-Rufai

Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai described the says that President Buhari's administration has impoverished Nigerians as unfair and uncharitable.
The governor stated this on Thursday, December 15th, while speaking to state house correspondents at the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

"When people say that this administration has impoverished them; I think they are not being charitable. Because I have said that we inherited a governmental structure at state and federal levels built around the assumption that price of oil will remain at $100 per barrel. By the time we took over, prices dipped to as low as $26 per barrel," he said.
"Now when 80 per cent of government revenues depend on the price of oil and the quantity of oil you sell (reduces) you must expect a cut in your consumption if the price collapses. If in your own household your salary is slashed by 80 per cent, what do you do? There is painful adjustment in the funding.
"You have to seek your family and explain to them that this is what is happening, your salary has been slashed by 80 per cent so rice is off the table and it is now `garri’  and so on. This is what Nigeria is going through. Essentially, our revenues have collapsed by about 40 per cent to 60 per cent if you compare it with , say, 2014. This collapse happened because the price of oil has moved from a high of $140 a barrel around 2013 to a low of $26 per barrel in February 2016.
The governor blames the situation on the resurgence of militancy in the Niger State.
"Secondly, we were producing over two million barrels of oil per day because of vandalism in the Delta, production went to as low as 1.1 million barrels per day."
The governor noted that the production was back a bit to 1.8 million barrels per day but noted that when the production was little so very little money was coming in to the government, therefore it was inevitable that there would be cuts and pain.

Continuing, the governor said that when he left office as minister of the Federal Capital Territory in 2007, Olusegun  Obasanjo's administration handed over $40 billion in reserve and  $27 billion in Excess Crude Account.
"That is what we handed over to late Yar’adua. Coming back as Gov. of Kaduna there is only $2.1 bn in excess crude account and when we left office the price of oil was $75 per barrel."
El-Rufai alleged that subsequent administration squandered $300 billion savings, borrowed over $60 billion in the period and spent all.
"Coming back as governor of Kaduna there is only $2.1bn in excess crude account and when we left office the price of oil was $75 per barrel. It is up to President Buhari to clear that mess," he added. The governor said the country was paying the price of mismanagement of the past, therefore unfair that the critics were not referring to the causes of the present predicaments. Defending Buhari's economic team, he said unlike Obasanjo’s economic team, Buhari’s team was headed by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
"What you need at the policy level is basic understanding, management skills and leadership. The VP is exposed, educated and enlightened enough to say yes or no if given many policy options. The technical people are there to give you the technical input and the VP was the one selected and he has to make that policy decision.
"You cannot have an unelected economist deciding policy for the country because there has to be accountability. But there is nowhere in the world where heading the economic team is economist because the technical people are there to give you the technical input," he added.

Manpower Development: Bayelsa to inject funds into Niger Delta University

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson has pledged the government’s commitment to inject funds for the infrastructural and manpower development of the state-owned Niger Delta University, NDU, to attract reputable lecturers and students to the institution.
Dickson made the pledge during the submission of the interim report on the NDU to him by the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Stephen Odiowei at Government House, Yenagoa.
He noted that, the NDU has the potential for self sustainability, adding that, the challenge for the government is how to raise funds to close the gap on neglect the institution suffered in the past by investing to raise the capacity of the university.

While also pledging to support the committee to ensure that, it formulates a development plan for the Niger Delta University, Governor Dickson promised to study the interim report, with a view to taking the most appropriate decisions that will impact positively on the institution.

Restating the government’s stand on the issue of subvention for the running of tertiary institutions, owned by the state, Hon. Dickson noted that, subvention was a sustainable means to reduce cost of running and encourage infrastructural development.
”Government’s position on the issue of subvention is well known and we will encourage it because it is  sustainable during this period of economic recession, as well as fast tracks infrastructural development.
“Government does not consider it sustainable to be paying salaries of lecturers and other staff, as the NDU has potentials for self sustainability, through internally generated revenue to meet their demands”.
Presenting the committee’s interim report, the Chairman, Professor Stephen Odiowei, disclosed that, the NDU has twelve faculties, sixty three departments and ninety-one programmes, adding that, eighteen departments have interim accreditation, twenty seven unaccredited programmes and nine denied accreditations.

Summarizing their findings and observations, Professor Odiowei added that, inadequate funding and power supply, poor service delivery, delay in salary payment, among others, were some of the factors militating against the development of the institution.
The committee recommended the provision of 1000kva generating set to serve both the new and old campuses, financial support to the school’s agricultural farm, prompt and regular payment of salaries as well as the engagement professors and senior lecturers as factors that could enhance the smooth running of the university.

Donald Trump blasts the Green Party and Hilary Clinton for election recount, says it's a scam

President-elect Donald Trump blasted the election recount on Saturday, calling it "a scam" and "ridiculous" adding that Hillary Clinton had already conceded. He said the fundraising ploy by the Green Party and its nominee, Jill Stein was just a way to make some money.
He said:
"This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than one percent of the vote overall and wasn't even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount."
Jill Stein was the presidential candidate for the Green Party. She had a fundraising where she requested $2.5million for the election recount in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and fortunately raised over $5 million online for the recount in Wisconsin, which may begin some time next week. Then she raised her target to $7million saying that she needed the extra funds for her lawyers.
After Trump complained about the recount, he went on his twitter page and wrote:
"The Green Party scam to fill up their coffers by asking for impossible recounts is now being joined by the badly defeated & demoralized Dems."

Nigerian Air Force deploys additional platforms to North West. (Photos)

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed additional platforms to the North West region of Nigeria to reinforce the on-going operation against cattle rustling, armed robbery and kidnapping in the area. The new deployment, comprises of fixed and rotary wing aircraft to complement those deployed earlier for the operation in the state.

Addressing press men during his operational visit to 119 Forward Operations Base (FOB), Sokoto, Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar, stated that the additional re-enforcement of platforms in the North region, was to tackle the on-going threat that cattle rustling has currently pose to Northerners, pointing out that Zamfara State in particular, has been faced with series of serious security challenges as a result of this, hence the need to take drastic steps to curb the situation in the area.

To tackle the problem, the CAS stated that NAF will continue to work in synergy with other security agencies in the state in order to achieve the desired result. He further disclosed of the movement by NAF towards restructuring 119 FOB Sokoto, by reactivating existing infrastructures in the area and building new ones, deploying additional Regiment personnels to enhance operational capability of the Unit in its bid to restore internal security operations within the area.

Air Mshl. Abubakar’s visit to the area not only availed him the opportunity to undertake a facility tour of the Unit, it also allowed time to pay a courtesy call on His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh (Dr) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar (III) in his palace.

Man spotted in Kenya as Jesus look-alike, react to crucifixion threat

The Jesus look-alike who caused a stampede after he was spotted walking barefooted in the downtown Nairobi on Wednesday, has come out to react to a crucifixion threat. Many might be assuming he is a beggar wandering around the country to seek help, but the Jesus look-alike is actually a traveler, whose name is Daniel Christos from Perth in Australia.

Friday, he took to his Facebook account to share a snapshot, where a Facebook user (Mook Carter III), hilariously said they are planning to set up a committee to get and crucify him together with two thieves.

According to Christos, he said the people have welcomed him with so much enthusiasm since arriving Kenya from Ethiopia, but became uncomfortable to walk on the street of Nairobi after seeing the hilarious threat on social media. Read his full post and see more photos of him after the cut....
I arrived in Kenya less than 2 weeks ago from Ethiopia and have been welcomed with so much enthusiasm like I've never experienced before in my life. In fact, it's been so extreme that it's been a little overwhelming. Every single corner I walk on in Nairobi I have noticed someone either taking a photo or video while hundreds of times a day I hear people calling out "Jesus!".
Kenyan people, in general, have been very friendly and loving. Until I find this photo of me circulating online. I feel a little concerned by this person's comments. I don't know who wrote it and I don't know if it was just a joke or if they were serous, but it has made me a little uncomfortable to walk in the streets of Nairobi. I shouldn't have to respond to such close minded nonsense but a quick message to whoever posted the photo and comment... I AM NOT JESUS! I HAVE NEVER PRETENDED TO BE. I am a traveler who has come to your country as a visitor, i would hope that one day if Jesus does return you treat him with a little more respect than you have treated me. To everyone else, you are a beautiful people, I love you!

Pentecostal Churches now have apps so you can effortlessly pay tithe without attending service- Freeze

According to OAP Freeze, a young man sent him a screenshot of his mobile banking app which had apps of various Pentecostal churches on it, including Highlife Church. In one of the comments, someone even said they attended a church where they had POS in the church where one could use their ATM cards. Read what Freeze wrote after the cut..

I weep for Nigerians and their many woes,
Their mind is an enemy, greater than all their other foes. ~FRZ
---------------------------
A young man sent me a screenshot of his mobile banking app containing top Nigerian Pentecostal churches and I can't hide my disappointment. These churches want to make payment of tithe so effortless that you don't even need to attend service to pay your tithe. Does this mean that tithe is more important than service? Can't they wait till Sunday to collect tithe? How come no Catholic Church, no Jehovah's Witness, Anglican Church or Mosque is there? Only the Pentecostal churches where u get anointed school fees, anointed cucumbers and clowns spraying the same money you pay as tithe at weddings and celebrations, that's if they are not buying private jets or building schools your children cannot afford to attend with it! Please which one is HIGHLIFE CHURCH again reggae church and hip hop church NKO??! #NaWaOh #ItsAShame #ThisIsNotWhatChristWanted

Kidnappers from Delta, Enugu nabbed in Calabar

n a post and photos shared by APC TV via its social media page, it reported that residents apprehended the kidnappers after they had taken a victim.

Nigerians reacted to the incidents with some noting that human ritual was usually on the rise towards the end of the year.

Some however criticised the stripping of the suspected kidnappers.

Joe Tyav noted: Nigerians can condemn everything including the food we eat. This people are criminals that is not anything to them to take innocent lives. Yet, when a criminal is been treated as a criminal, we condemn. But I don't blame such people, because they have never had encounter with such criminal
